Judy Zappacosta will be returning to Hong Kong in November to provide Sandplay Therapy Training. Judy works in the United States and is an excellent teacher and supervisor of sandplay therapy particularly with children and adolescents. HKSTA had invited her last November to Hong Kong for sandplay therapy training and we had received numerous positive comments. We are delighted that she will return to offer more in depth training.
The title of the 2-day workshop Judy will be offered is “Developing Presence and the Use of Metaphorical Language – Sandplay Therapy for Children and Adolescents”. In the workshop, Judy will explore the importance of a therapist’s presence in sandplay therapy. She states that children today are living with incredible pressure to perform in many areas of their lives. Families are also faced with great uncertainty. When referred for therapy, clinicians who use sandplay can offer a unique environment to the child. In sandplay therapy, the ability to use one’s presence as well as contain a child’s process is of utmost importance. Clinicians are invited to practice the art of presence using experiential exercises that bring attention to mind, body and spirit.
Case studies will be presented showing how symbolic language offers metaphors of healing for both children and adolescents. These case studies will invite in-depth discussion regarding how this modality offers healing and transformation for the individual. Sandplay therapy, often imagined as a silent process also offers opportunities for well-timed metaphorical amplification. The use and timing of such amplifications will be explored. The psychological theories of C.G. Jung, Dora Kalff, as well as Eastern influences on Sandplay will be discussed. The date & time: November 8 & 9, 2014 (Sat & Sun) 9:30am~5:00pm, and the venue is The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom.
