We have invited Jill Kaplan from the United States to offer sandplay therapy training in April 13 – 14, 2019. Please save the dates. Jill is a very experienced sandplay therapy trainer particularly in working with children. Her topic is working with children who have special needs including autism spectrum disorder and trauma. In preparation of her coming, we are going to study two articles in our study groups. One in January about using sandplay to work with children with have autism; the other one is in February and we will look at Jill’s article in containment issues when working with children.
The January study group will discuss using sandplay therapy to work with ASD children. As sandplay facilitates the expression of unconscious content and nonverbalized emotional issues, children diagnosed with ASD may communicate verbally in an unconventional manner, and sandplay therapy is particulary useful for them. This article helps to provide sandplay therapists with information, clinical considerations and case study examples of the utilization of the sandplay for the treatment of autism and related disorders in sandplay. Sandplay can offer an archetypal journey, with the help of facilitating integration as components of the process facilitating transformation for high functioning autism individual, whom might normalize or improve as a result of the sandplay experience. Jennifer will also present related clinical material from Hong Kong for discussion.
