We have announced that Jill Kaplan from the United States will come to Hong Kong to offer sandplay therapy training in April 13 – 14, 2019. Jill is a very experienced sandplay therapy trainer particularly in working with children. Her topic is working with children who have special needs including autism spectrum disorder and trauma. In preparation of her coming, we are going to discuss two articles in our study groups. The first one will happen in January 22 about using sandplay to work with children who have autism written by Dori Pelz-Sherman & Stephen Olmsted; the other one is in February 27 and we will look at Jill Kaplan’s article in containment issues when working with children.
In the February Study Group, Carmen Cheuk will lead us looking into the article titled “Challenges to Containment in Sandplay Therapy with Children”. We will explore two aspects discussed in the article: the nature of a child’s process and the challenges of providing containment for children in sandplay therapy. Based on Michael Fordham’s concept of integration, de-integration and re-integration, we can witness this sequence in the sand process of children as well as understand how this process is in serve to the self-ego axis of the child. Additional sandplay therapy case studies from Carmen will be used for illustration in the study group.
