Exploring silence and femininity: Case sharing of a little girl
Silence is one of the essential elements in sandplay therapy. During the sandplay sessions, it is also a great challenge for the therapist to hold the silence and use it to facilitate the healing process. To believe that the presence, or being, of the therapist in the room with the client is already healing is not easy to accept and adapt. In this study group, a sandplay journey would be illustrated as how the therapist endured and held the tension of silence for a four years old girl who suffered from selective mutism. The differentiation of holding silence apart from resisting mutism as well as the feminine perspective of ego development will be discussed.
